They produced the world's first diamonds. They were the first civilization to discover iron. They invented chess, dying, plastic surgery and ovens. They made major discoveries in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, architecture, medicine and mineralogy. They gave us the taste of the fabulous Indian cuisine, rich in color and flavor.
Fortunately, you don't have to travel to India to experience all the magnitude of the dishes' unique taste. All you have to do is to visit Indira, an authentic Indian restaurant with a touch of modern spice, located in the highly reputable five-star hotel Holiday Inn Citystars.
Entering this amazing venue from either the mall (huge windows are beckoning with the display of the restaurant's open kitchen) or the hotel; you will be warmly greeted by the place's attentive staff, and if luck, Indira's skillful chef, brought directly from the country of exotic spices, unlimited natural resources, various cultures and religions.
From the first step, the décor will strike you with its originality, fresh combination of Western and Eastern motives and irreproachable taste: sun-shaped mirrors and golden Buddhas decorate the walls, the ceiling and floor are covered with wood, comfortable wooden furniture brings the feel of India even closer, various shades of red, purple, light green and brown underline India's diversity and uniqueness; whereas soft national music along with aromatic incense relax the senses, turning your dining into an unforgettable experience.
And though the setting and the atmosphere are incomparable, the food is yet a bigger attraction.
The menu is not big, but it is peppered with mouthwatering dishes carefully selected from the divine Indian cuisine, using spices and herbs brought either from abroad or found here in the country of the Pharaohs. Kick off with the straight-from-the-oven buttery Indian bread Naan (it can be either plain or with garlic and basil). It is so sinfully delicious that it seems that you can eat it everyday, completely neglecting the warnings of dietitians. While chewing and watching the chef masterfully preparing your meal (yes, live cooking is a distinctive plus), the table will be literally crammed with appetizing dishes, including the yummy starters, as: Vegetable Samosa (puff pastries filled with potatoes, sweet peas, herbs and spices), Indira's Mixed Green Salad or the 'wow' Cucumber Raita (home-made yoghurt with cucumber, caraway and cumin). Items prepared in the tandoor are also a must-try. Recommended are: Tandoori Murgh (chicken marinated in home-made yoghurt, saffron and Indira's spices), Indira's Lamb "Popsicles" (tender lamb chops marinated in yoghurt, fenugreek and spices) or, finally, Tandoori Prawns "Jhinga" (Jumbo prawns lightly marinated in turmeric, ginger and spices). The selection of main dishes does not disappoint either, letting guests the possibility to choose from the tantalizing curries as Murgh Makhani (boneless tandoori chicken cooked in mild spices, tomatoes, butter and cream) and Rogan Josh (classic lamb curry with garlic, ginger, peppercorns, onions and saffron) or the melting-in-the-mouth Biryani options, made of fine Basmati rice, carefully protected by the hot Indian sun.
Finish your meal with the healthy cinnamon tea (served with milk) and indulge yourself in the light-on-the-stomach desserts, including the renowned ice-cream Kulfi along with other sweet variants, fusing Indian and Western culinary traditions.
The service will astonish you with its attention, accuracy, care and excellence; whereas waiters' knowledge of the menu and guests' preferences will make you a loyal client of this fabulous restaurant.
